CMU Gymnastics Win
CMU Gymnastics Win
This week I took photos of Gymnastics for the first time this year. Gymnastics is probably one of the hardest sports to photograph because the athletes move so fast and high it is hard to know for sure where they will land or if your settings on your camera will be set right to get the action. For Gym I showed up one hour early to be prepared for the meet. I met up with my fellow CMU Athletics photographer Sydney to get a line up sheet and touch base with our Graduate Assistant. After Sydney and I meet up with our Kolly our video creative to check up before the meet started.
When the meet started, I did not have a lot of faith that I would capture very many good photos that the coaches would like since they delete anything if the gymnastics are not in good form. First, we went through vault, and I hadn’t gotten too much then on to bars. For bars I tried a few different angles that I haven’t done before and thankfully they worked! The CMU gymnastics team did very well for bars so that made my job a lot easier because I was able to get some really good reaction photos of the team.
Next, we went on to beam; at this point I was feeling a lot better of my photos and was able to see my growth from March of last year to February of this year. For beam I decided to go on the side so when the athletes were flipping down the line of the beam, I would get their face just above the beam.
Toward the end of floor CMU was battling it out against Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (UW-Oshkosh). However, CMU’s last few scores pulled us to the top winning with an end score of 196.00 to SEMO’s 193.025 and UW-Oshkosh’s 192.375. Now that the meet was over, I was thankful that I was able to capture all the high scores and reactions from the athletes. When I went through all the photos, I took I realized that my photography had improved a lot while be able to get some creative angles.
